Our little Caterpillars

Sadly, I have been slacking lately on the blog...I have been in a blog funk. That being said, I think that I would love to know what my child was doing and learning in preschool. So, here is to being better for the sake of the parents! I will try to update the blog every Friday.

With Halloween just around the corner we thought we better start learning our Halloween songs. We are learning: 5 Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Fence, 3 Little Witches, and Mr. Jack-o-lantern. The kids all love music time and learning new songs, we will keep working on our Halloween music through the rest of the month.

The shape of the month is RECTANGLE! Please point out things to your child that are rectangular, and invite them to find rectangles as well. One fun rectangle we have been discussing is dollar bills. We use play money daily to practice counting and using numbers.

Riley...all the time.

We also learned about Caterpillars turning into beautiful butterflies. It starts out as a tiny egg. The Caterpillar cooks in the egg for 2 weeks.
This is how small a caterpillar egg really is.
Here is our interpretation of our leaf and all of our many tiny eggs.
After two weeks it hatches and turns into a beautiful caterpillar. Once it is a Caterpillar it eats and eats and eats leafs - of course. It gets fatter and fatter and then gets tired and it needs a nap.

So it wraps up in a tight cocoon. It sleeps for 3 weeks.

After three weeks in the cocoon it decides it is ready to join the world again. It opens up as a beautiful butterfly!
I'm a beautiful butterfly. (every time I write or say this I think of the movie A Bugs Life when the caterpillar turns into a butterfly and says this. LOVE IT!)

Finally, we made our own caterpillars and put them into a cocoon and they turned into beautiful butterflies.

Please remember to read the preschool board every preschool day, and keep up on the homework.
Next week we are learning about: Monday: Earthworms, Wednesday: Inchworm counting, Friday: HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION (come in costume for a day full of fun!)
